About Components

  • Resistor: It protects the LED from burning.
  • Transistor: It has 3 terminals – collector, base and emitter. The emitter is shown with arrow in the symbol.
  • LDR: It is light sensitive device. When light falls on it, its resistance decreases. When it is in dark its resistance is maximum.
  • Capacitor: It stores electric energy of battery for some time. It is called temporary storage device.

Circuit diagram & Working

When light falls on LDR, the street light i.e. white LED is OFF. When the LDR is in dark, the streetlight i.e. the white LED becomes ON.
